What size are exhibition carpet tiles?

What size and weight are our carpet tiles?

The standard size for our printed carpet tiles is 500 x 500mm, and it's also the most popular. We can make tiles in a size to suit you, including larger single tiles (one example on our product page is a single tile 1.5 x 1.5m) and custom shapes such as hexagons.

Each tile is 4mm thick, with a 100% polyester surface printed by dye sublimation and a grey slip-resistant textured backing. The carpet weighs 900 gsm, or 0.9kg per square metre, so a standard 500 x 500mm tile weighs 0.225kg.

How many carpet tiles do I need for my stand?

Four standard tiles make one square metre. Here's how that works out for common stand sizes:

Stand sizeFloor areaTiles at 500 x 500mmTotal weight
2 x 2m4 m²16 (4 x 4)3.6kg
3 x 2m6 m²24 (6 x 4)5.4kg
3 x 3m9 m²36 (6 x 6)8.1kg
6 x 3m18 m²72 (12 x 6)16.2kg
6 x 6m36 m²144 (12 x 12)32.4kg

Weights are the carpet only, worked out from 0.225kg per tile. The table uses nominal stand sizes, so order from your own measurements (step 1). For a stand that isn't a simple rectangle, such as an L-shaped corner, work out each rectangle separately and add them together.

Why use tiles instead of a roll of carpet?

Tiles are supplied flat and are easy to lay yourself, and you can print one big image across them or give each tile its own colour for a checkerboard look. A roll of printed carpet is one continuous surface instead, up to 1550mm wide and 4m long.

Tiles also suit a small branded area rather than a whole floor, such as an event entrance tile or one large logo tile.

Use the following steps to plan your carpet tiles

1. Measure the floor you need to cover in millimetres. For a shell scheme, measure inside the walls.

2. Divide each side by 500mm to get the number of tiles across and down, then multiply the two. A 3 x 3m stand is 6 tiles by 6 tiles, so 36 tiles.

Note: If a side doesn't divide evenly by 500mm, ask us about a custom tile size so the floor fits without gaps.

3. Plan your artwork as one image across the whole floor. A single image can be sliced across multiple tiles, so the finished floor reads as one picture. For example, six 500 x 500mm tiles laid together make a single image of 1.5 x 1m.

4. Keep your text big. Carpet is a textured surface, so it can't hold the fine detail of a smooth print. Use text at least 20mm high and avoid detailed or intricate images. That's fine for a floor, because people view it from standing height. Colours stay strong, because dye sublimation embeds the ink into the carpet fibres.

5. Choose a shape. Squares are standard, but tiles can be cut to other shapes and nested together.

6. Lay the tiles yourself by simply positioning them on the floor in the layout you planned, printed side up and grey backing down.

IMPORTANT: Printed carpet tiles are made for short-term use. On a stand with medium to high foot traffic, expect around 15 days of use before you notice signs of wear.

7. Finally, check your artwork against our artwork specifications and place your order. The price is per square metre, and standard production is 2.5 weeks from your order and print-ready artwork. Allow extra time for delivery to your venue. You're done!
