What size teardrop or feather flag do I need?

What sizes do teardrop and feather flags come in?

Event flags are sold by their overall height, standing on the pole. Our teardrop flags come in 2.5 m and 4.5 m. Our feather flag, the Blade 2 Go flag, comes in 2.5 m, 3.5 m and 4.5 m.

The printed graphic is shorter than the overall height, because the bottom of the pole and the base sit below it. These are the trim sizes from our artwork templates, for each printed side:

FlagOverall heightPrinted graphic, each side (W x H)
Teardrop2.5 m790 x 1880 mm
Teardrop4.5 m1250 x 3830 mm
Blade 2 Go (feather)2.5 m645 x 2000 mm
Blade 2 Go (feather)3.5 m710 x 3000 mm
Blade 2 Go (feather)4.5 m815 x 4000 mm

Each template adds a 25 mm bleed around the trim line. The trim sizes are bounding boxes: a teardrop narrows towards the bottom, so most of its usable space is near the top.

Why does the flag size matter?

The height decides how far away your flag can be seen and how big your logo can be printed. A flag that's too small can get lost behind people, cars and other signage. The shape matters just as much, because a teardrop and a feather flag of the same height carry very different artwork.

Use the following steps to choose the right flag size

1. Choose the shape. A teardrop has a rounded top that tapers to a point, so it suits a logo or brand colours that people recognise at a glance. A feather (blade) flag is tall and narrow and keeps more of its width down its height, so it's ideal for displaying more information, such as a brand name read top to bottom.

2. Choose the height from the chart above. At a festival or busy outdoor event, choose the 4.5 m height so the flag clears the crowd.

Note: The teardrop artwork templates are titled 2.4 m and 4.4 m. They're the right files for the 2.5 m and 4.5 m flags; the product page links them that way.

3. Choose single or double sided. A single-sided flag is printed once and shows through on the back at about 95%, so the reverse reads as a mirror image. A double-sided flag has a block-out core between the two prints, so each side shows a correct image. If people walk past from both directions, choose double sided.

4. Choose a base for the surface you'll stand it on. Every flag comes with an in-ground stake, which is often all you need on grass. For hard surfaces, add cross feet, a steel base plate or a heavy cast iron base. There are also wall-mounted brackets (60 degrees or 90 degrees), car tow-ball mounts and car tyre brackets.

IMPORTANT: Neither flag has a published wind rating. If your site is exposed, such as a beach or open ground, talk to us about the height and base before you order.

5. Download the artwork template for your shape and height from the product page. Keep your important text and images inside the green line, then remove the green line and leave the grey trim line on the artwork. Convert all fonts to outlines and spot colours to CMYK, don't include crop marks, and save the file as a Press Quality PDF. Our artwork specifications cover file formats and how to send it.

Note: For the feather flag, there are separate templates for a flat bottom and a scoop bottom, in all three heights.

6. Finally, place your order on the product page, choosing the height and single or double sided printing. Standard production is 1.5 weeks from your order and print-ready artwork. Your flag arrives with its fibreglass pole, ground stake and a zip-up carry bag, and without the base it weighs no more than 3 kg in its bag. You're done!
