How do I set up and pack down a pull-up banner?

What is a pull-up banner?

A pull-up banner (also called a roll-up or retractable banner stand) is a printed banner that rolls into a base. A coiled spring in the base keeps the banner under tension, so you pull it up out of the base and attach it to a support pole at the back.

Our pull-up banners arrive with the printed banner already fitted to the stand hardware, packed in a carry bag. No tools are needed: our Premier and extra-wide stands go up in no more than 60 seconds from opening the bag.

Why does it matter how I pack it down?

The spring pulls the banner back onto a roller. If you don't guide it down, it can roll in crooked, and a graphic that tracks to one side creases along the edge and eventually jams. Careful packing helps prevent faults.

Your Premier unit has a lifetime guarantee on the stand hardware, and the Quickscreen carries a lifetime warranty. On both, the warranty applies to non-graphic components and is available to the original owner of the unit. The warranty does not cover damage caused by mistreatment by the user or by normal wear and tear.

Use the following steps to set up a pull-up banner

1. Open the carry bag and take out the base and the support pole. Lay the base on a flat floor with the printed side facing the people walking past.

Note: Taking one of our shopping centre banners to a mall? Check with your centre contact first. Many Westfield centres no longer allow pull-up banners.

2. If your stand has feet, fold them out. Quickscreen stands have two extra-wide fold-away feet for stability. Open them out flat on the floor before you raise the banner.

Note: For outdoor use, we can supply Quickscreen hardware with holes in the feet and tent pegs, so you can secure the stand to soft ground. Pegs steady the base but don't make the banner wind-proof, and no wind rating is published, so take the stand down if it gets windy.

3. Join the pole sections together and check they fit.

4. Seat the bottom of the pole firmly in the base.

Note: Extra-wide banners attach to more than one support pole. Fit every pole before you raise the banner.

Note: Our pull-up banners aren't supplied with a locking pin, so the spring is always ready to pull the banner back in.

5. Hold the top rail with both hands and pull the banner straight up out of the base, slowly and evenly.

IMPORTANT: Don't let go of the top rail until it is hooked on the pole. If you do, the spring will pull the banner straight back into the base.

6. Raise the banner fully and hook the top rail onto the top of the pole.

7. Finally, step back and check the banner hangs square to the top rail and the stand doesn't lean. If it leans, re-seat the pole and adjust the levelling feet, if fitted. On a double-sided stand, raise the second banner the same way, or show just one of the two. That's it, you're done!

Use the following steps to pack down a pull-up banner

1. Lift the top rail off the pole and hold it with both hands.

2. Walk the banner down to the base, letting it roll back in slowly and straight. Guide it away from the end caps so it doesn't wander to either side.

IMPORTANT: Never let the banner retract on its own.

3. Lift the pole out of the base and separate the sections. If your stand has feet, fold them back in.

4. Wipe the base with a soft, damp cloth.

5. Finally, slide the base into the carry bag with the pole sections together, zip it up, and store it somewhere dry, out of direct sun and away from heat. You're done!
