How to choose between a pop-up stand and a fabric frame wall

For a conference or a small exhibition, the choice usually comes down to two kinds of portable back wall. A pop-up stand is the traditional option: a folding frame that expands, with printed panels that attach by magnets. A fabric frame wall is a light aluminium frame dressed in one printed fabric graphic, either pulled over it like a pillowcase or pressed into a groove around the edge.

Both give you a full-height branded wall behind your table, and both pack down small enough to travel with you. The differences show up in the weight you carry, how the wall looks up close, how easily you change the message and whether you can light it. Here's how they compare.

How pop-up stands work

Our Executive pop-up stand is our traditional back wall, made curved or straight. The frame expands, and the roll-up printed panels attach to its magnetic support bars. It's 2.24 m high. A curved wall is 600 mm deep at 2.5 m wide and 760 mm at 3.2 m (a straight wall is 340 mm), so allow for that when you plan the space behind your table.

Two features make it a good conference stand:

  • The case. It travels in a tough hard-shell wheeled case that is fine to send by air. Add a printed wrap and the case becomes a sales counter at the show.
  • The lights. Two spotlights come as standard, which helps in a dim ballroom foyer.

The trade-off is weight. With its case it weighs about 28 to 38 kg, depending on the size.

How fabric frame walls work

Fabric frame walls replace the folding frame and panels with a simple aluminium frame and one printed fabric graphic. We make two kinds.

SuperWall has a snap-lock frame joined by elastic cord. The fabric slides over it like a pillowcase and zips closed, so there are no joins across the front. It sits in our pop-up displays range alongside the Executive. The fabric is a 270 gsm polyester knitted from 85% recycled polyester and printed by dye sublimation.

Brandframe uses silicone-edge graphics (SEG). A silicone strip along the edge of the fabric pushes into a groove in the frame, which keeps the print tight and smooth. Frames are made to any size and are fully modular, so you can add or remove sections, or build in a roof, a lockable door or a curve. Display-in-a-Bag Brandframe is the travelling version, 950 mm wide as standard, in a wheeled case.

Set-up, weight and freight

For a team flying to a conference, weight and packed size matter as much as looks.

  • Lightest: packed in its bag, a 3 m SuperWall comes in at about 12 kg, and its frame is a five-minute, one-person job.
  • In a wheeled case: the Display-in-a-Bag Brandframe, at its standard 950 mm width and 2.4 m height, is 17 kg including its case, which measures 1,080 x 560 x 390 mm.
  • Heaviest: the Executive pop-up, at about 28 to 38 kg with its hard-shell case. It's the toughest to ship but the case doubles as your counter.

A larger Brandframe can be split into smaller pieces for storage and transport. Smaller pieces mean more of them, so it takes longer to put together.

Look, finish and lighting

Up close, the biggest difference is the joins. A pop-up's graphic is a row of panels side by side. A SuperWall or Brandframe face is one piece of fabric with no seams across the front, so a wide image or a photo of a person reads cleanly.

If you want a lit wall, each system has an option:

  • Executive pop-up: two spotlights shine onto the front of the graphic.
  • Illuminated SuperWall: a curtain of LEDs hung from the frame lights the fabric from behind, like a portable lightbox. It comes in 2.4 m and 3 m widths, 2.45 m high, with Australian-certified power transformers.
  • Brandframe Glow: LEDs inside the frame turn the whole wall into a lightbox. You can also add programmable LEDs to highlight parts of the graphic.

Backlit walls need power, so book a power outlet with your stand and check where it will be.

Reconfiguring and reusing

All three let you keep the frame and change the print.

  • Pop-up: we can print a new set of panels that attach straight onto your existing frame.
  • SuperWall: slide the old skin off and the new one on.
  • Brandframe: pull out the old fabric and press in the new one, with no tools.

Fabric skins can be machine washed cold, which keeps a well-travelled wall looking fresh. Brandframe is the most flexible to reconfigure, because you can add sections or change its shape for a different space. It also carries a 2 year warranty on the frame, against 1 year for the Executive pop-up and SuperWall.

Which suits conferences and which suits exhibitions?

Conference exhibitions are often small. At Supply Nation Connect 2026, for example, the stand sizes on offer were 2 m x 2 m, 3 m x 3 m and 3 m x 6 m, inside 2.5 m high shell scheme walls. The full-height walls on this page are 2.24 m to 2.45 m high, so they fit under that.

  • Flying to a conference, small team: SuperWall. It's the lightest to carry and quick to set up.
  • Regular road trips and you need a counter: Executive pop-up. The case becomes the counter and the lights are included.
  • A premium look, a lit wall, or a stand that changes shape between shows: Brandframe.
  • A 3 m x 3 m stand at a trade show: three SuperWalls can enclose all three sides, or a Brandframe can be made to fit the space exactly.
