Pull-up banners: economy, premium and wide-base stands compared

Published

Quick answer

For pull-up banners that go to events every month, buy a premium stand: at the standard 850mm x 2.1m size, the steel retraction spring, padded bag and lifetime hardware warranty cost $140 more than an economy stand. Choose a wide-base stand for airports, malls and other busy floors (check first that the centre allows pull-up banners), double-sided when people approach from both directions, and extra-wide (1.5 to 3.2 metres) when you need a backdrop. An economy stand suits a short campaign with light use.

Economy vs premium retractable banners: what actually differs

Every stand in this guide sets up the same way. You open the bag, pull the printed banner up out of the base and clip it to the support pole at the back. No tools are needed and it takes about a minute. The differences are inside the base and in how long the stand will last.

The warranty is the clearest sign of the gap. On both stands it covers the non-graphic parts for the original owner, and it doesn't cover misuse or normal wear and tear. The spring works every time the banner goes up and down, so it matters most on a stand used often.

Is a premium base worth it? It is when the stand will be used often, passed between staff or sent by courier. For a single launch or a one-week promotion, the economy stand is enough.

Single-sided vs double-sided pull-up banners

A single-sided banner works against a wall, at the back of a shell scheme stand or beside a stage, where people only see the front.

A double-sided banner carries a print on each face, so it reads from both directions. We recommend it for walkways, shopping centre malls, airports and open foyers. The Quickscreen and extra-wide stands come single or double-sided, and the shopping centre stand is double-sided as standard. On a double-sided stand you can also run one banner at a time, which gives you two different messages from one piece of hardware.

Standard, wide-base and extra-wide stands

Standard base. The Premier pull-up banner stands are our everyday premium stand for conferences, trade shows, roadshows and retail outlets. The aluminium base weighs under 6kg.

Wide-base. The Quickscreen has two extra-wide feet that fold away for transport. The wider footprint keeps it steady where people brush past. It is also the only stand in this guide listed for outdoor as well as indoor use: we can supply feet with holes and tent pegs so it can be secured to soft ground.

Extra-wide. Extra-wide pull-up banners give you the look of a wall from a single bag. They run from 1.5 to 3.2 metres wide at a standard height of 2.1 metres, with other heights made to order. They carry a 2-year hardware warranty.

Pull-up banner sizes at a glance

Sizes, lead times and prices below are from each product page. Prices exclude GST and freight and include the printed banner and carry bag. "From" is the price of the smallest size listed.

The most popular size is 850mm wide by 2.1 metres high. At that size a Promo is $167, a recycled stand $182, a Premier $307 and a single-sided Quickscreen $411. Lead times run from when you order and supply print-ready artwork. Allow extra time for delivery. Premier and Quickscreen stands also take an optional LED light kit ($64).

Shopping centres. Each centre sets its own rules for promotional displays, including height, and many Westfield centres no longer allow pull-up banners at all. Our mall-height stands are designed around the requirements of the major Australian centres, but that doesn't guarantee a centre will accept one. Check with your centre contact before you order, then see the double-sided shopping centre banners.

Printing and replacement graphics

We print standard banners digitally on PVC-free banner vinyl that lies flat and keeps glare low. For a richer finish on the Quickscreen and shopping centre stands, ask about a blockout dye-sublimation fabric upgrade.

You don't need new hardware when the message changes. Send the stand back to us and we'll fit a new print to the same base. This re-skin is the main reason a premium stand is worth buying: one base can serve several campaigns.

For artwork that works at a distance:

  • Keep it to a logo, one headline and one supporting line.
  • Put the key message in the top two-thirds, above table height.
  • Leave the bottom of the banner for imagery, not text, because it is hidden behind tables and people.
  • Supply files at the finished size with bleed, using the artwork template for your exact width and height on the product page.

You can supply print-ready artwork, or our in-house design team can prepare it from a brief.

Buying pull-up banners for a team: fleet, storage and lifespan

When a team shares banners across states, a few decisions save money over the life of the fleet.

  • Standardise on one or two sizes. One width means one artwork file for every unit and simpler reprints.
  • Buy premium for anything that travels. Courier handling and many users are hard on springs. A padded bag protects the base in transit, and the lifetime warranty covers the hardware, though not misuse or wear and tear.
  • Keep a register. The warranty applies to the original owner, so record which unit was bought when and where it lives.
  • Store and pack with care. Retract the banner slowly with a hand on the top rail, wipe the base clean and keep each stand in its bag between events.
  • Plan for end of life. Send unwanted hardware back to us. We inspect and refurbish it, swap out any damaged parts and pair it with a fresh print for another customer, which keeps it out of landfill. Recycled stands cost less than new premium hardware and carry a 12-month warranty.
  • Order in volume. Product pages list prices by quantity. An 850mm x 2.1m Premier drops from $307 for one to $233.30 each for 11 or more.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a pull-up banner take to make? One week for most stands and 1.5 weeks for extra-wide, from order and print-ready artwork, plus delivery.

Can I use a pull-up banner outdoors? The Quickscreen is listed for indoor and outdoor use and can be pegged into soft ground. No wind rating is published for it, so bring it in if the wind picks up. The Premier, Promo and shopping centre stands are listed for indoor use.
